Gothi qui Orientem versus habitant. Sic Ostrogothi, vel Gothi Orientales vocabantur olim, qui Italiam tenuerunt, ad discrimen Wisigothorum, seu Gothorum Occidentalium, qui Hispaniam occupavêre. De prioribus Claudian. l. 2. de Eutrop. v. 152.

Haec vulgo vocis origo: Grotius vero in Hist. Goth. docet, ab iis nomina haec a patria iam deportata fuisse: namque et Vopiscus circa Claudii tempora Austrogotthorum, it e. Ostrogothorum meminit, et Cassiodorus ab antiquo Ostrogotha Rege, qui imperante Romanis Philippô, floruit, nomen ortum docet. Horum REgum Genealogiam, vide apud eundem Grotium. Teias ultimus illorum Rex fuit. Populi hi, Arcadiô et Honoriô imperantibus, invaserunt Phrygiam, Lydiam, et Pamphyliam. Vide Claudian. Zosimum, Eutropium.
